Planning our gap year: Australia

We have booked our gap year via an amazing travel company called Gap 360. I have traveled via this company before so had zero hesitation to book with them again. The trip we are doing is called the Global 360, you can customise the trip to suit you which is what me and Tim have done. The third and longest stop on our trip is Australia (16/10/2022-14/10/2023)...

First off we have a week in Sydney with Gap 360 where we have a Sydney walking tour and welcome dinner on Day 2, followed by orientation and Harbour boat cruise on Day 3. Day 4 -6 covers a beach camp adventure where we explore the rain forests and wildlife, go Dolphin spotting, enjoy a 4 wheel drive, go sand boarding, night time possum spotting, bush walks and Dolphin spotting cruises! Day 7 is a free day to relax with the evening option of exploring city bars and clubs. The final Day offers a cliff top beach tour.

After this we are free to spend up to 12 months in Australia with our working visas. Gap 360 will be helping us find work, I'm going to opt for Ranch/Farm work because that's closest to where my skills lie. Tim will join me in that work, he's spent the past 15 years in kitchens and he's ready for a change! We are aiming to do about 9/10 months of solid work to build up our funds. While doing this I want to make the most of our downtime and cover all of the below in Sydney and NSW:

  • Sydney Harbour Bridge (sunset)

  • Blue mountains/ wentworth falls

  • Lord Howe Island (climb Mount Gower)

  • Road trip along waterfall way

  • Byron bay

  • Kosciuszko national park

  • Montague Island (Dolphin, Whale, Seal and Penguin watching)

  • Mungo National Park

  • Sydney tower

  • Wildlife Sydney Nature Park

  • Taronga Zoo and cable cars

  • Abercombe caves

  • Canberra

After our months of work we plan to hit all the main attractions across Australia and we will most likely travel via planes and trains!

I am most excited for all the zoo's we are planning to visit!

I am least excited for the mountain climb...
