First things first, this blog is not sponsored or in partnership with Skyscanner. They are no way affiliated with Travel bee.
When Tim turned to me and said he wanted to go away during his two weeks off and had found flights to Barcelona for £35 I thought, nah, we can find better than that...and I did! Within an hour I found flights to Palma for £12 return. And here's how.
Step 1
Open your skyscanner app or go to the website. I use the app, and this is what it looks like.
Step 2
Click on flights and put in the airport you want to fly from, for me, it is Birmingham. Then when it comes to entering where you want to go to, click on the box and the option to search for 'everywhere' pops up. That's what you want.
Step 3
Be flexible with your dates, have a play around. We had two weeks to search through so I tried lots of different date combinations. We only wanted two nights away so I did a lot of 3 day combinations including over weekends, middle of the week, early week, just to see how that affected the price.
So this is what the app will look like when you put the dates in and search. It shows a list of destinations and the cheapest flight price for the dates you've put in. I kept adjusting the dates until I found a price and destination combination I liked!
Step 4
Once you've found the combination for you, go ahead and click on the destination. It'll open up to a screen like this.
So it's now showing me all the destinations within Spain for that date, starting with the cheapest one. It'll do this with all the destinations, so if you click on Italy it will open up and have flight options for Milan, Rome, Venice etc. If you have a certain destination in mind, this is a great way to find a bargain flight. If, like us, you just want a good deal for a short getaway, this is how to do it.
You can see I found flights to Ibiza for £9 return pp. I was looking around 4 weeks in advance (this will also affect the price, the later you leave it the cheaper they get but then you run the risk of it selling out).
If you are after a budget weekend away, I recommend researching into the destination of the cheapest flight, as it may be a very expensive area. For example: Hostels, Bars and Restaurants in Ibiza cost more per night/visit than in Palma.
That's it!
So just like that in 4 easy steps you can find yourself a single digit figure flight to somewhere sunny. It's a great way to spend a lunch break, and if you're lucky, you might find yourself jetting off the next week for a short getaway that costs less than a night out on the town.
Please note:
the prices shown in the pictures are correct as of March 2022
the prices are estimates and may not include fee's added on by the airline
the time of year will affect the prices (summer will be more expensive etc)
how far in advance you are booking for will affect the price (you either want to book really really far in advance or just a few weeks before)
